Baseball Makes Sports Mainstream in Raanana (May 27, 2006)

The baseball community of Raanana came out in full force to greet their mayor, Mr. Nahum Hofri, who paid a visit to the Raanana field on Friday. Haim Katz, IAB President, and Bruce Maddy-Weitzman, President of the Raanana Baseball Club, both praised the Mayor and the city for their support of baseball in Raanana and expressed the hope that the city will continue to maintain a home for baseball in Raanana.
Mayor Hofri stated clearly to the large crowd of players and parents, that the city would continue to support baseball in Raanana and pledged to find baseball a new field, if and when they will be required to evacuate their current location.
Bruce Maddy-Weitzman thanked the Raanana sponsors for their assistance to the club and urged the crowd to patronize their businesses. The sponsors this current season are: Chip Moss president of Opcom Technolgies, Zaq Harrison of American Home Mortgages, Michael Bar-Chen of Pizza Chen & Mel Levi of Re/max Ra'anana.

Mel Levi the Sharon Regional Co-ordinator also thanked the mayor and presented him with a hardball signed by the Ra'anana children who participate in the program.

The derby day itself was very exciting and also featured Chicago Best Aaron Hot Dogs brought to Israel and cooked by Zaq Harison with the assistance of parent Debbie Weiss.
