Cadet Team Earns Bronze Medal

The National Cadet team participated in the second week of July in an international tournament in Reggio di Calabria in the very south of Italy. This was an official tournament of the Central Europe Baseball Association (CEB), where the first two teams (out of six participants) qualified for the European Championship in 2008. The team came in third place, behind host Italy and Lithuania. It had a very respectable record of 3 wins and 2 losses.

The cadet team was coached by Craig Dunning (head coach) and Noam Zwilling (assistant coach). It started it preparation late, as tryouts were held only in late April. Weekly training sessions were held during May and June and finished with a mini camp in early July. The 18 team members came from a variety of teams around the county.

Altogether the trip was a success both on and off the filed, with the team gaining valuable experience in competing internationally and also having an opportunity to get a taste of a part of Italy not often visited.
